UFig

UFig (Ultra Fast Image Generator) is a fast, wide-field image simulation code. It is based on two components:

  • models of galaxies, stars and observational conditions, which, while simple, capture the key features necessary for realistic simulations, and
  • state-of-the-art computational and implementation optimizations

Ufig is described in external page An Ultra Fast Image Generator (UFig) for wide-field astronomy and external page UFig v1: The ultra-fast image generator. An example of a simulated image is shown below.

real_vs_sim_9813_702_grayscale
A comparison between a real and a simulated coadd for tract 9813, patch 702 in the HSC COSMOS field using the galaxy population model of Moser et al. 2024. The bright star mask, as derived from the data, is applied to both the real data and simulation.
